A programme aimed at individuals with accountability for managing a project or large sub-project who is seeking to gain an executive view of its planning and control requirements. Simultaneously gaining an understanding and awareness of, the higher skills of project management in a practical based environment.
Prerequisites
Knowledge and understanding of the content of “Planning and Control in Projects”.
Course Objectives
To enable delegates to:
- Identify the role of the Project Manager, the Project Sponsor, the steering committee and their relationship with each other
- Identify the elements that must be considered to achieve success when initiating a new project or when taking over an existing one.
- Establish a reporting and risk management process, which will allow the assessment and management of the projects’ information and risks.
- Understand and employ the people management skills needed for effective utilisation of resources.
Course Content
- Successful Project Initiation: Recognition of the key issues and aspects involved in setting up a project. Identifying and setting up frameworks in which the project structures, mechanisms and issues can be set.
- People Management: Individual and Group sessions to highlight those critical people elements (Assertiveness, Negotiation etc.) in a project that must be in place to ensure its future success.
- Risk, Value & Finance Management: Professional project managers understand the need to identify and manage the key elements of risk, value for money and financial justification.
- Practical Case Study: Delegates will practice their skill in a realistic project scenario, making decisions using the skills learnt.
